The dojo

Bujinkan Aryu Dojo is a network of traditional Japanese martial-arts schools (Ninjutsu / Budō Taijutsu) founded by Dai-Shihan Saša Kesić within the worldwide Bujinkan. It runs active dojos in Belgrade (Serbia), Linz (Austria) and Nynäshamn (Sweden), each with its own instructors and weekly classes. This is our dojo: I train and assistant-teach here, so I knew the domain firsthand: the lineage, the ranks, the etiquette, the way each location refers to itself. That kept the content accurate without long review cycles and shaped decisions a generic build would have missed.

The site is purely informational, with no shop and no booking. Its only jobs are to be found locally and to turn that attention into inquiries and new members.

My role

I built the site end to end and maintain it: the design, the content, the three languages, the search visibility, accessibility, and the forms behind it.

The challenge

The network was on an aging single-language WordPress site that didn't match how it actually works:

  • One audience, three countries, three languages (Serbian, Swedish, English), but the site effectively spoke one, leaving most local search and most readers underserved.
  • A contact form that often sent nothing: it just opened the visitor's own mail app, and a separate event-registration form failed silently because of a tiny configuration bug.
  • Thin search visibility and no accessibility discipline.

What I built

One site that exists fully in all three languages, automatically showing each visitor the right one based on where they are (with a manual switch and sensible fallbacks). Each dojo gets its own little micro-site, and every page is set up to rank in its own language. Both forms were rebuilt into a real pipeline: every inquiry and registration now lands in a single inbox as a clean, branded email, and the person who filled it in gets an instant confirmation in their own language, replacing a form that often sent nothing. I also fixed the bug that had been silently swallowing registrations. The whole site is genuinely accessible, checked automatically on desktop and mobile before anything ships, and the old WordPress addresses were preserved so nothing indexed broke.

Results

  • One site serving three countries in three languages, auto-selected per visitor, each independently findable.
  • Every inquiry and registration arrives in one inbox as a branded email, with an instant localized confirmation back, replacing forms that used to fail silently.
  • Genuinely accessible, enforced on every change, desktop and mobile.
  • Moved cleanly off WordPress with old web addresses preserved.
